Developmental Dysphasia is an acquired speech disorder, i.e. disorder of the ability to produce verbal messages (language production) and understanding the words of others (language comprehension), when verbal communication and expressive language ability are delayed in development, while there is relatively normal social development without hearing loss, mental retardation, autism or other disorders (Golubović S.)
According to ICD-10 classification, developmental dysphasia is classified as follows:
- Language expression disorder (Developmental Dysphasia or Expressive Aphasia)
- Language perception disorder (Developmental Dysphasia or Perceptive Aphasia)
Absence of certain words by the age of two, along with failure to form simple two-word sentences at 3 years, limited vocabulary, mistakes in syntax, in particular omission of suffixes and prefixes, incorrect use or non-use of grammar , such as: prepositions, pronouns, articles, cases, tenses etc.
The child, in its effort to compensate for the lack of speech, communicates using gestures, mimic or silent phonemes. These school children face similar difficulties in their relationships with peers, emotional disorder, irregular behaviour or/and hyperactivity with carelessness.
These children do not answer back to their name by their first birthday, they are unable to identify certain simple objects by 18 months of age, or fail to execute simple commands by 2 years- that are significant features of this disorder.
How can homeopathy help when a slow development of speech and language is detected?
The homoeopath doctor, gets a detailed history from the parents, asks them questions about the child’s complete development from birth to its present age, and what was the progress of the child’s intrauterine growth.
The doctor receives information on how the pregnancy of the mother was, whether the mother had any complications during childbirth, what was the psychomotor development of the childlike, when did the child start to walk, to talk, when it first tasted solid food, when it said its first word, until what age (years – months) it used diapers… etc…
Then, based on the overall clinical appearance, a homeopathic medicine is administered having a beneficial effect on the development of speech, language, motor skills.. (cognitive development).
Homeopathic medicines that are properly selected and correctly administered can be a “Gift from God” for children with dysphasia. They can help them relax, produce speech more easily making use of grammar rules, and feel more internal security.
Homeopathy can also improve the overall condition of the body, and therefore children feel stronger, which leads to an overall sense of wellbeing.
